In the summer of 2019, we were given a vision; a hope for the future. After being part of the Higher Cambs mission, we felt called to a ‘venture’ that spans a full week in a school, so that we could begin to develop relationships with the young people and give them the opportunities to learn more about us and the One who created us; the One who wants us to be by His side for eternity. And so PULSE was born! The vision/hope is that we can see every young person that entered secondary school in Fall 2019 at each of the 7 schools we are active in for one week over the next 7 years. Whew! That does sound like a big step, but we have been immensely blessed by a ‘Core’ group that has committed to planning these schools weeks over 7 years.
In February 2020, the week after half-term, we had our first venture in Newmarket Academy. Being part of the National Youth for Christ team gives us a little advantage, so we brought in their traveling band called The Sense! The Sense goes around and works in schools, giving music lessons and demonstrations, as well as participating in RE classes. Joy and Andy run this team (and have been for many years) but have been doing work in schools for over 30, They bring wisdom and experience so that we can learn and grow with each year!
A week in schools is the aim of the game! With the help of Youth for Christ’s ‘The Sense,’ lessons in music and RE were given throughout the week. The Sense led all lessons and created opportunities for the students to learn more about them or about the instruments they played. With testimony’s given by a few of the members, the kids were left thinking about how God worked in the lives of the band members and how He can impact their personal lives.
We had nearly a whole week in a school, and the ‘Gig’ on the Thursday night of that week at King Edward VII Memorial Hall in Newmarket.
